Referee Development

The SW Board are excited to share a new initiative aimed to lift referee capability and capacity in the Wellington region.

Led by our SW District Referee Convenor Matey Galloway, participants will work closely with designated mentors through a personalised programme as well as collaborating and sharing ideas with fellow cohort members.

Please see the information below for more information and how you can get involved. We ask that you pass this onto your membership and anyone that maybe interested.

SQUASH WELLINGTON STRATEGIC PRIORITY “Improve the refereeing capability in the District”

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES
To build a capable resource pool of District Referees in the Wellington District through a personalised referee
programme.

• Clubs have a wider pool of members willing and capable to referee games through to higher graded matches

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
The programme aims to prepare Club Referees for District Referee assessment. We will do this through:
• Mentors
o Mentor will be expected to support participant throughout the programme.
o They will be expected to be available to provide support and guidance particularly for practical
assessment preparation.
• Collaboration space
o Designed to provide a place where participants come together to share learnings and ideas with their
peers.
o Questions and answers forum
HOW IT WORKS
This programme is managed by our District Referee Convenor and is open to all squash players who are current Club
Referees. To express your interest (EOI) in this programme please contact Matey Galloway, SW District Referee
Convenor.
Once EOI have been received, individuals will be assigned a Mentor. Mentors will make contact within 5 business
days to arrange an introduction session.
In this session the individual and Mentor will work through the programme expectations and develop an Individual
Development Plan (IDP).
Observations will be encouraged so when participants meet with their mentor, we encourage them to find tournaments
where they will be able to observe the mentor and vice versa. Mentors will discuss this in more detail at the
introduction session.
PREREQUISTES
To take part in the programme, a participant must be a current qualified Club Referee. The exam is free and online.
There is a minimum pass mark. Club Referee is the most common level for many members as it is a requirement for
most interclub and all SuperChamps teams.
